D10 is doing her homework....

And I can not figure out the answer.

Help!!!

Here is the problem.........

Carol, Gideon and Jose each eat two cookies each day.
While Mary eats one cookie each day.
There are enough cookies in the jar to last 24 days.
But Mary decides to eat an additional cookie each day.
Now how many days will the cookies last?

I am praying to go through this test and come out the other end with a new and better marriage then before.

Hmmm. I think, and believe me I could be wrong, that it is 21 days. Here's why: Carol 2 x 24 = 48
Gideon 2 x 24 = 48
Jose 2 x 24 = 48
Mary 1 x 24 = 24
____
168
There are 168 cookies

Now Mary eats an extra 1 a day
So they are eating 8 cookies a day
168 divided by 8 is 21. So, I think it is 21 days.

Or I lose and I have to say to the world, I am not smarter than 4th grader.

((3 x 2) X 24) + 24 = 168 cookies
3 kids eat 2 cookies a day and Mary eat 1 a day for 24 days = 168 cookies in the jar total eaten in 24 days.

BUT Mary throws her diet to the wind and decides to eat 2 cookies a day.
4 x 2 = 8

4 kids eating 2 cookies makes that 8 cookeis a day.

168 cookies in a jar will last 21 day with those kids eating 2 cookies a day.

21 days.

Well BND IF they had gotten the question right they would have been smarter than you...as it is you are both as smart as each other.

And here we go again......

Tom had a platter of chocolate wafers. He ate five of them and gave his brother three, he then handed them to his ball team of eight members. The first player to arrive took one, the second player took three, the third player took five and so on. When the last player took his, the platter was empty. How many wafers did Tom start with?

(This one I could actually do)
