From the Toronto Sun, March 22, 2010.

Bonnie Preece may be quitting her day job as a cashier at No Frills and checking out in the express lane with her winning Lotto 6/49 ticket.

The 49-year-old London, Ont., resident won $20.6 million in Saturday’s draw after purchasing two $2 Quick Pick tickets and was so much in disbelief, she called up her sister to double check the winning numbers on Sunday morning.

Preece shared the $41 million prize with a winner from Edmonton.

She and husband Bill Rollings can now afford things like a new car and buying their first home — something her $12.30-an-hour salary wouldn’t let her afford for a long time.

It was only seven months ago he suffered a heart attack and now he says there’s a world of opportunities in front of him.

“I have $80.17 in savings,” she said.

Bev Smith, Preece’s 44-year-old sister living in Clinton, Tenn., said the last time she saw her sibling was about a year and a half ago. It’s often difficult for her to get up to Canada and her sister had financial trouble getting down south.

“I’m ecstatic for her,” she said. “She’s very giving. Hopefully, I will get to see her more often now.” Preece went into bankruptcy several years ago and she’s had to pay cash for everything and take the bus.

Asked if she would help out her ex-husband, she turned to the cameras and said, “Sucks to be you.”
