I've run these threads periodically and like to update the titles to encourage newbies to read.

That's because the best advice I got was to exercise to get rid of stress. It works. I really urge newbies to consider. It can be about as close to free as you can get. You get a free skin lift, possibly lose weight, and feel stronger and more confident. You also get endorphins going--better than antidepressants. For many people, all these benefits add up to a 180.

BH has given some great advice on this thread, and that is cool, esp. given that it can be so hard to siphon through the tons of stuff out there for weight loss, etc..

As an FYI, I am not "buff," and didn't intend to lose weight but I was physical therapy material when I came here and now I'm lifting 12-pound weights, cardio about 4x/week 20 min each and yoga about 2x/week. I feel much better and happier (and nice thing is that it will show....)

Wholeheartedly agree.

The easiest, cheapest path to a PMA is simple excersise.

It's amazing how that levels you out. And you don't have to start out with a gym membership. Just get out and take walks if you aren't doing anything, and then go from there.

BH, another weightlifting question.

Does it make any difference in terms of toning if I exercise one set of muscles at one point and another at another point?

For example, if I do arms in the morning and legs at different points throughout the day, will I be less toned?

Ok, I'm going to try to jump on here w you F. I had lost quite a bit last year on the D diet and it is starting to slowly creep back on.

My goal is while I'm off this summer to start going to workout again. The kids are gone off and on for two weeks at a time, so I should have plenty of time!!

Forward, no, it will not matter, in fact I think its good to isolate body parts in workouts. Be carefull to not overload any one particular body part in your workouts.

Thanks for posting this F!
Working out (almost) daily now, this is one of the best things that's happened to me since this whole roller coaster began.
Great to hear that it's been good for others too smile

Ok... So I'm taking the plunge this week... I have a free gym across the hall at work that I have yet to use. So I'm going to start using it.

I found a free PDF of Turbulence Training workout routine that I'm going to go by... See how it goes..I am so much a beginner at this though. The last time I lifted weights was *gasp* high school!!!

Yikes!

Good thing I thrive on challenges cuz my body is the ultimate one right now!

My motivation has slacked off some. I might have to try some other types of cardio, mix it up some.

I am not doing too badly with diet.

BH, another question. What if I do 10 minutes of cardio here, 10 there...is that as effective as just 20 minutes straight?

Does a long walk (like an hour) do as much as 20 minutes of vigorous exercise on the bike?

I do not know how much cardio I should be doing to get firmed up. I have been doing 20 minutes about 3-4x/week.

Forward, all research says cardio is most effective using AT LEAST 30 Minutes of vigorous cardio 5 days a week. I recommend 45 min to 1 hour 5 days per week. If you want the bod, gotta pay the price!
