Sorry, Gump. It's not easy and will get harder.

I was 2 when my parents separated and I was a teenager still holding out hope my parents would reconcile even though my mother had been married to someone else for years.

You can make it easier by committing to them. Let them know your life still includes them and they are loved by you. Just another hurdle you WILL get past.

Mine still talk of her coming back and living with us.

Can't start living when death surrounds you. This is gut wrenching. Seriously, it's when the kids ask these simplest of questions or make statements that speak to the shift in their lives that they have no understanding of...it's soul crushing.

((Gump))

Let's hold hands and jump. No, let's not. Tomorrow will be better. I'm so sorry.

Understatement of the year.

True...soul crushing...my daughter asked me who my Valentine is and I say mommy...she runs to the next room and asks my W who her Valentine is...there is an awkward pause...and my W says I am my own Valentine...

Ugh. It doesn't get any easier.

Ugh. Daggers in the heart. How do you guys find peace when things feel so, so bleak? I don't know how spiritual you guys are, but when I pray and meditate, it's pretty much immediately better. Don't get me wrong, these soul crushing moments come fast and furious, but then...they're done. Is that your experience?

Its the most difficult thing there is - and makes the death of the marriage look like a walk in the park. Prayer does help. But what helps the most are the kids themselves. Their hugs, telling me that they love me, etc. I never show them what it does to me - they have enough on their plate. I know, kids need to know that its ok to show feelings and all, but some things are better left kept in check.

If there is one thing I am grateful of, it is my M fell apart long after our daughter became an adult and moved out of the house. Reading everyone's stiches is incredibly sad when there are young kids involved. I can't imagine the pain you go through dealing with that.
