Kerry,

Your trip sounds so cool. I'm sure your kids will love it too. The weather should be great and just all the fresh air will be wonderful.

We'll be expecting updates when you come back, ok?

I am setting up a blog on blogger.com, but I dont know how often I will be near wi-fi. I do have to keep in touch with work.

I have already told the kids to be careful with the obsedian - it can cut, and if they just toss it in their buckets, it can break easily.

Someday, I will take the kids to a place to look for the Oregon state rock - "The Thunderegg". The Virgin Valley near the Bog Hot springs has quite a lot of Opal deposits and one can do their own digging there for a fee.

When I lived in the SW I used to flintknap. I used a deerbone to shape the obsidian into arrowheads.

I had never heard of flintknapping. I suppose you could also make a knife with a nice long piece of obsidian. It would never rust and it probably stays sharper longer than steel.

Hi, I don't understand a word, it's ok... No snakes on a stick though. I insist.

Maybe you could make some friends in the local big house and smuggle them in some obsidian to make some shims.

Just a thought, but those type of connections can come in handy at times...
