as you know but they live 90 miles away ... so I only ask him to make that long drive when I'm really desparate

I laughed when I read this Allison - you Pommies and your adversity to distance!!! I drive 90 miles to do my grocery shopping each week - sometimes I drive 140 miles each way just to go to a meeting in town.

You're a funny mob!

To defend the Brits, petrol (or gas) is a lot cheaper here in North America.

Thank you Being Me,
I would also (guess) never having been, that your roads are wider, straighter and less congested than ours.
I only drive 15miles to work but after the first few minutes of a relatively straight road, the rest is like a corkscrew and narrow with passing points (Mini laybys)and I only have to meet a tractor and that can add quite some time to my journey, not to mention cami cazi pheasants or sheep or cows and the odd dead badger in the road that I cannot run over. I have to get out and drag it to the side of the road but thats just me.
So a little sympathy whilst your laughing Walking.

Wow what a lot to reply to.

First things first. Yes I did go out. It didn't promise to be a good evening as the pub where the social network group met was not lively and stunk as they had a collapsed drain. However a friend and I left early and went to a champagne bar where we eventually met up with another friend. If I say I staggered home you will know it ended up being a good night (even if a little expensive).

D13 got home after I left and according to my dad H picked her up at 10.45pm! She has only been back temporarily since. Stayed there last night and is there again tonight. Of course he won't be having her next weekend as it's his birthday and he and OW are going away (again) so it's not convenient.

My dad has been great. He has done so many jobs for me whilst he has been here bless him. He even got up at 6.30am this morning to drop me off at the station as my car was still not back. He then went and paid for the repairs on my behalf as I couldn't get back in time before they closed. I have paid him back but at least I was able to have my car back today.

As for the car................ don't get me started. They quoted me over £400 on Saturday. Today they rang back and said they had done what they had said but it still hadn't fixed things although the fault was now only showing as intermittent. They said if I wanted them to strip everything down and do it again I would have to pay ANOTHER £250. I told them I wasn't going to pay them twice for doing the same thing and that if it was only intermittent that would have to do for now. I'm furious now that I have the car back b/c it is far from intermittent, the problem is now happening far more frequently than when I took it in Tomorrow is they refuse to do anything without me paying more money I will be calling Trading Standards.

WB I understand what you are saying about distances but my dad is 70 and at that age 90 miles is a long way to drive especially when it's nearly all motorway and city centre driving. However there is no badger dragging around here So I won't be buying any of your patented gloves I'm afraid Naej!

Hi ACJ,

I am so sorry that you are messed about with the car. I also think you should call Trading Standards if they refues to do anything without you paying more money. Good luck.

Have a good week. (((HUGS)))

I'm still trying to get my car sorted. I rang the garage this morning and they said they would get someone to call me back but of course they haven't done yet.

The last few days of having my dad around to do little jobs for me has made me realise that eventually I do want someone else in my life. It was so good to think that all the chores that are currently mine (replace that with everything to do with running a house) could and should be shared with a loved one.

I do still feel that I have to get the D over with before I even contemplate dating though.
