Hey guys! I wasn't sure where to post this, it isn't really DB-related but you guys are my friends, too! And I know a lot of you are runners...

I was running great last year until I got the actual 'flu' in late May...followed by bronchitis...followed by summer yardwork and things that kept me distracted.

I want to start over from scratch on running and do it the right way instead of going all-out for a week or two and injuring myself (what I typically do blush )

I know several here (Mindfull, PearlHarbor, etc) have done Couch to 5K. I have a couple questions...

1)I have an ipod shuffle. I assume i need to upgrade to something else to play the podcasts? Will a different type of iPod or MP3 player work? I don't want to buy an iPhone. However I do want to be able to download something that has the cues included (when to walk, when to run, etc)...

2)Anyone have a favorite version of Couch to 5k to recommend? I know I can just print off a training schedule online from one of hundreds of websites, but I really would like one that tells me what to do... smile Otherwise I start running and don't look at the time and miss the intervals...

THanks Jeff, I checked it out. My concern is having the right software/hardware before I start... I just know that the shuffle doesn't play those C25K podcasts so wanted to know what did...or if anybody has a recommended podcast since there are several...

K...

First, Hi~ Miss you! smile

Ok, about "Couch to 5k". It is an exercise/running program that takes you from doing very little exercise (that's where 'couch' comes from), to running a 5 kilometer race...

I have seen a few varieties that you can download and put on your iPod to listen to while you walk/run. It tells you when to walk, it tells you when to run, so you don't have to try and keep track of the time passing as you go.

Some are just applications that give the voice prompts for when to do what. Others actually include the music which kind of sets the pace.

I would rather find one with the music because I know the music on my iPod varies greatly and I wouldn't want a slow song to pop up during the running part! wink

The problem I am having is that I have the smalled iPod, the iPod shuffle. It does not play podcasts or applications like that. So I want to know what the cheapest thing I can buy is, to play the Couch to 5k applications. I am thinking maybe the Nano works...I know I don't want to buy an iPhone!

Anyway, that's what I am talking about!

I have a feeling the Nano would work. I have to say, I like my shuffle for just listening! The guy who invited me to sing with "Transporter Accident" (we are not engineers! HA!) recently replaced his Nano with an iPhone, so I have the Nano loaded with the setlist. Still figuring out how to use it! But my car radio knows how to talk to it. OK, that's not real useful in the exercise part! smile

seems like I found a website that the guy who was organizing this (with the music cues) you could download and save his podcasts as an .mp3

But I have an iTouch so it worked just fine with my stuff and iTunes does organize it as a "podcast", however, I know that the file definitely has a .mp3 as an extension.

the cue pieces were very good, was not so happy with the actual music, but it was ok... biggest problem I had was trying to do this on a treadmill in November.. I spent a lot of time adjusting the speed up & down..(obviously I wasn't "running" very long yet! and it very frustrating.

If you were just free running outside.. it would be just fine.
I'll do some looking to see if I can find the guys website.
I think I just googled couch to 5K play lists.

Peace

PS btw, I decided next summer I will have the best body ever, which means I have to set my couches far apart from each other...

Jumping to conclusions is a good way to exercise. As is running up bills. Okay, those are really bad. Stretching the truth? Or is that a WAS exercise?
