I agree whole heartedly, but the labour voters did not live the pk banna republic, and so have no ideas of how far out of control the spending was. I know people in their 30's who will never understand why we can't keep borrowing.

Under the libs, you will be better off owning your own business. Oh crazy and I did give them a piece of my mind on the tax rates for second and third jobs. There was some four letter words, I tell you. It's not often those people get to mix with real working class. They were all ears.

Some of those senators are really nice people, really nice normal people not like they are portrayed in telly.

Yeah, it's scary hearing about people living beyond their means. I look at my own budget at the moment and know that I'm living within my means but it could be a whole lot healthier. I really think financial education, house ownership and availability of credit needs to be addressed as a lot of people are going to be in trouble down the road. When I was earning $100k pa I was told I could borrow over $600k for a house when I had less than $20k in my bank account. They're scary figures and some people take up those kinds of offers.

I will be happy to earn 100k in my life time. It's yet to happen. Saving is discipline, You just do it.

Have you heard of the 10% rule. Save 10% straight off and live off the rest. Use the 10% to invest into things that will yield a return of $. My house repayments would make most people's eyes water. The ratio is horrendous, but it's my dream.

You can also save the windfalls you get from governments as well, like tax returns and bonuses. I just saw a woman on the average income of 100k crying poor. I felt like chucking a rock thru the damn screen, it will take me years to earn that figure. Yet I'm more secure $ wise than her. Due to my skill a stretching a dollar.

I've had opportunities and blown them. You have to live and learn though. I'm working off 10% at the moment. It's going towards saving for my brother's wedding across the country next year so it's not really savings per se. I'm going through a massive budget rejig at the moment to see where I'm spending at the moment compared to what I want out of life. I'm glad I have my Playstation or I'd have no fun at all.

The vets on here 2x4 on r, me I have 2x4 plenty on finances. I am tight enough to make scroge look frivolous.

You missed the point on the 10% it should not go to events or fun things, it should be invested In something that secures your financial freedom. Well the richest man in Babylon is the theory behind it. I've adapted it for my mortgage.
How is the wedding helping your future?

Depending on where the wedding is, there are other ways. Of saving a dollar. Trust me, looking for ways to spend less is paradime shift.

Sorry, that was what I was trying to get at. I'm putting the money away as a habit but it's allotted elsewhere. The budget rejig is to find the spare dollars, what I can change to create spare dollars and to create some actual savings. It's been an eye opener so far.

Let me say play station is a want, not a need.
Food house and utilities are needs anything else apart from clothes are wants.

Save $ on the basics where you can. In the lucky country most people I know are wasteful with $. My child moans how big of a scrouge I am, and it pleases me. He doesn't understand why I don't feel insulted.

Free and cheap stuff is out there. Be creative. Think twice before you buy anything. Especially coffees and food out. I tend to never carry cash something I learnt in high school, but if you have it you spend it.

I fell into those traps. My biggest vice was iced coffee. Love the stuff. I've stopped carrying cash around and I'm trying to be more vigilant about food for the house, especially since my wife is doing the weekly food shop and I'm paying half the bill and then topping up from my own account through the week. I'm working on curbing the topping up to just necessary items (bread, milk, fruit) and the odd treat for the kids and I. The biggest killer for me at the moment is childcare.

This was something I used to do, calculate the cost of an iced coffee v cost of milk and a spoon of coffee from home. Hot days on the road we used to buy a 2l of milk and add sachets off coffee from a motel. Cost $2.00! Take always from shops about $10 for 2!
