Back now, including one day of airline messup. Seeing W first time went okay, though dinner was a bit strained (perhaps she could ask how my trip was...). D16 nice, spent time with me, and wants to see a special museum show, maybe even this weekend (yay!). Garden in full swing, arguably as green as Hawaii (it must have rained a bunch here). 3 day weekend, as tomorrow is a holiday for W and D16, and summer vacation starts next week (W is a school teacher). We'll see what this brings (I have lots of work...). Back to working on improved communication. Luke

You came at a good time in Hawaii. The weather was picture perfect.

Yes, and the graduation was neat, with Hawaiian singing, hula, and lei giving. A neat place! I envy you! Luke

Glad things are progressing on the daughter front. So, I must have missed you when you were out here but we were traveling ourselves for dear friends who lost their oldest d to a car crash (she was our d1's roomate in college and again in Europe for the study abroad program). Leaves a gaping hole in that family...

Anyhow, let me know when you're here next and we'll MAKE it happen. My h thinks your work sounds fascinating and might have medical applications as well.

So, what's up with the divorce? I thought w was filing...i sure missed something!

Please do not judge your r with your d, by how she reacts around you, NOW. She's 16...

She knows enough to feel shame at the deceit, which your w must have requested and I can only wonder what excuse she gave (probably the Sicily trip??)

but your communication with your wife stills seems frozen in time from 10 years ago. I don't see any movement there.

What's up?

Hola MLC,

Yes, frozen is a fair description. I am working on thawing things, fwiw. W has not filed, yet, and I arguably have felt happy recently, without her...

No worries on the d16 front - she was so nice today - I took to heart the advice given here of never stopping the love for your kids.

No reaction from W on my mutual information re the kids note (actually no communication from W at all, the whole 4+ weeks I was gone).

Yes, let's make a get together happen. I am sorry it did not this time around. I'll be more often up your way due to my nephew starting school there this fall.

Luke

W is uncommunicative and irritated, working on house and garden (national holiday here). I told her d16 and I are going to a museum Sunday and even invited her, but she said she had too much to do painting (so the house can be sold, though she did not say this). She suggested that d16 might want to invite a friend (hopefully not) and said she had heard the exhibition was good. Beyond that, we have not had any significant interaction.

Being in the States is an escape from the depressing state of affairs here. As life is what you make it, I guess I'll have to do more GAL here.

d16 mostly hangs with W. Perhaps I can find an activity beyond Sunday's excursion that we can do together.

Luke

Does it have to be an activity? Can't you just spend time together.........talking? I don't mean you "teaching" her, but you getting better acquainted with your daughter.

Hi sandi,

No, you are right, it doesn't. I really enjoy her telling me things, letting me into her life a bit, and maybe she'd like the same from me. I do feel I hide in my office (avoiding dragon W), which unfortunately isolates me from d16 also. Time to leave my comfort zone, I suppose... Luke
