I would agree that it's important not to be in contact for little things and would say that contact can (and probably should) become infrequent. For me, it has reduced to once every few weeks or so. A month may go by with no contact for example. But I 'check in' every so often - to wish HNY for example, and the BD email above. Other than that, pretty much no other contact on my part...

Wow Feelings are really divided on this one. She sent me one on my birthday, like you guys said just the two words and that was it. Really I was inclined not to do it, although I have worried about what she would say to my children if I did not, I would hate to be thought of negatively by them, I think a simple happy birthday text would be sufficient to get me out of this with not to much being read into it, this is the only reason I thought I should do it. I have been quite good at not contacting her for anything other than financials and family matters.

I think Happy bday text is fine but not the good luck text. If she sent you one on your birthday I think it is fine to send a very benign note back. But, don't go out of your way for anything else. Just my two cents...
