Family insurance plan would have been 375 a month

She doesn’t understand how insurance and subsidies work

She didn’t want to share so she got her own policy through her job.

This makes her ineligible for my family so it’s just gonna be me and son

We lose subsidy however and that costs 400 a month for me and him

Hers costs 160

So now our family who is struggling financially has to pay almost 200 a month more because of her quick i don’t want to be in your plan thinking

She is calling in 20 min to talk about it and I don’t know how to steer the convo

I want to say. “Why would you do that just to not be on mine?!?” That’s a lot of extra money!!

She just figured me + son would be cheaper than fam and she wouldn’t wait

Sorry it makes no difference what it costs,
you are looking at it way too logically.

From her point of view she does not want to be married anymore so it doesnt matter if it cost her
$2000.00
She will pay whatever it costs to not be tied to you.

Just say OK and let it go.

I've told a lot of other posters here, do not make decisions based on finances. I know you said that you are financially strapped. And I feel for you in that regard. But the reality is that all of this stuff is expensive. If she files it is going to get even more expensive. However, $$$ is not the driving factor here, as Cadet said.

So suck it up, cut something else, and move forward.

When she calls to talk, listen and validate.

She is unhappy about the cost and I think regretting her decision. Remember this morning she started backtracking about her decision a little

What is there to discuss?

Time to start protecting yourself. Get your paycheck going into your own account if it is currently going into joint account

Let her feel the consequences of her decision.

Hi, the wait a few hours advice is spot on. It sounds like you’re about to do something rash.

Don’t reassure her. Let it sit for a few hours.

ozman, this is another reason you do not want to try to convince her based on finances:

So say you say to her what you quoted: “Why would you do that just to not be on mine?!?”

And say through her WAW, maybe WW, fog, she agrees that it doesn't make sense. And this convinces her to stay just for $$$.

Is that really the relationship you want? No affection? No intimacy? No connection? Just a business arrangement?

Be careful what you wish for.
